Scientific Overview
Symmetric Dimethylarginine (SDMA) is a sensitive and early biomarker of renal function. The VECHEK SDMA Rapid Test is a competitive lateral flow immunochromatographic assay designed for the semi-quantitative detection of SDMA in whole blood, serum, or plasma of dogs and cats. Unlike serum creatinine, SDMA is not significantly affected by muscle mass, allowing veterinary clinicians to detect reductions in renal function much earlier as a critical diagnostic aid for screening and monitoring Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).
Professional Testing Protocol
- Bring test cassettes and specimens to room temperature (15–30 °C) prior to testing.
- For Serum / Plasma: Transfer 1 drop (40 μL) into the specimen well (S), then immediately add 2 drops of buffer (80 μL).
- For Whole Blood: Transfer 2 drops (80 μL) into the specimen well (S), followed immediately by 2 drops of buffer (80 μL).
- Start the timer and read the semi-quantitative result at exactly 10 minutes.
- Do not interpret results after 20 minutes.
Semi-Quantitative Result Interpretation
- Negative (< 14 μg/dL): Test line (T) is darker than or equal to Control line (C).
- Positive (14 – 20 μg/dL): Test line (T) is noticeably lighter than Control line (C).
- Positive (> 20 μg/dL): Test line (T) is extremely faint or completely invisible.
